The murder case of Kasipul MP Charles Were took a new twist after a police officer testified that one of the suspects threatened to kill the prosecutor in the case.
While appearing in court on Wednesday, June 4, Police Constable Damian Mlongo testified that the suspect made the remarks after the prosecutor was opposed to their release.
For record purposes, the presiding judge asked the officer to quote what the suspect stated.
"The suspect said 'huyu ni nani hataki tuachiliwe (who is this that does not want us to be released)'. We told him that it was the prosecutor.
"Then he said 'huyo tutamuua (we will kill that one)," the officer told the court.

They also asked the officer to identify the suspect he was referring to, and the officer identified one of the suspects who was wearing a white shirt.
Following the incident, the judge ruled against releasing the suspects, further ordering a medical assessment for the suspect who made the threat.
She expressed that the court also needed to act to protect the witnesses in the case.
"I take note that the accused person has threatened to kill the prosecutor. The mere utterance of the words ‘huyu tutamuua’ - the question is, what about the witnesses? Justice Diana Kavedza ruled.
"On these grounds, the three are denied bond/bail. The first accused is to be escorted to Mathari Hospital for assessment.”
The prosecution is pushing for the suspects to be charged with the murder of the MP who was killed after leaving Parliament in April.
Notably, close associates of the MP are accused of collaborating with others in the murder that caused an uproar among ODM leaders.
