  • Kwale County ODM chair Hassan Mwanyoha said it is highly likely that Odinga contracted Covid-19 after his Coastal tour

A section of leaders drawn from the Coast have dismissed claims that ODM leader Raila Odinga contracted Covid-19 during his recent BBI popularization tour of the region.

According to the leaders, relevant measures were taken to ensure the former Prime Minister, his delegation; all other guests and attendants were not exposed to the risk of contracting the virus.

Speaking to a local daily, Kwale County ODM chair Hassan Mwanyoha said it is highly likely that Odinga contracted Covid-19 after his Coastal tour.

“I have not gone for Covid-19 test so far, but I strongly believe the party leader could have contracted Covid-19 after the Coast tour,” Mr Mwanyoha argued.

His point of view was shared by Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo who noted that Raila had meetings in Nairobi after concluding his Coast tour, adding that he may have contracted the virus during these meetings.

“If our party leader could have contracted the coronavirus in Coast, the situation could have turned bad within 24 hours. Raila felt sick several days after the Coast tour. We believe he contracted Covid-19 in Nairobi… Raila did not contract the disease at the Coast. He held other meetings in Nairobi after the Coast tour,” Madzayo opined.

Odinga tested positive for Covid-19 mid last week and was discharged from hospital on Sunday.

He is currently in isolation at his Karen home.
