A school bus veered off the road and plunged into a ditch after the driver fell sick while driving.

A school bus veered off the road and plunged into a ditch on Tuesday, June 17, after the driver reportedly suffered an epileptic seizure while driving.

The accident that occurred on the Kasarani-Mwiki Road saw the bus narrowly avoid a head-on collision with oncoming vehicles.

"An epileptic school bus driver caused a crash on Kasarani-Mwiki Rd after losing control and veering into a ditch — narrowly avoiding a head-on collision,” the Motorists Association said.

The association noted that several students were on board at the time of the incident, but no serious injuries were reported.

The association further expressed concern over the high number of accidents involving school buses, noting that this is the second school bus-related accident in Nairobi this week.

"This is the second school bus incident this week, after one overturned on Thika Road near Garden City,” the association added.

On Monday, June 16, motorists using the Thika Road were left stranded after an unbranded school van carrying children was involved in a road accident near Garden City Mall.

The accident happened at around 6 am, and the injured students were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

The accident resulted in a huge traffic snarl-up from Githurai 45 to the accident scene near the Garden City Mall in both sections heading to Nairobi CBD.

Following the accident, motorists took to social media to express their frustrations with the traffic snarl-up.
