The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that rain will persist across 5 regions this week.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has predicted that rainfall will persist across five regions this week. 

In a weather update on Monday, June 23, the Met Department said rainfall will be experienced in the Central Highlands, which includes Nairobi. 

Other regions set to experience rains are the Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast, and Western Kenya. 

“Weather Outlook: 23–30 June 2025. Rainfall likely over: Central Highlands including Nairobi, Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, Coast and Western Kenya,” the statement read in part. 

The weatherman also predicted that parts of the Highlands of East and West, the South Eastern Lowlands, and the Rift Valley will experience cold and cloudy weather over the next 7 days.

North Eastern Kenya and North Western Kenya regions will have daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C, while the Central Highlands, Central Rift, and areas around Mt. Kilimanjaro will experience night-time temperatures of below 10°C.

“Daytime: >30°C in NE & NW Kenya. Night-time: <10°C in Central Highlands, Central Rift & around Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the Met Department stated.

Further, the weatherman forecasted that strong winds exceeding 25 knots will be experienced on the Coast and Kenya’s territorial waters.

The strong winds will also be experienced in the South-eastern lowlands and the North-eastern and North-western Kenya regions.

“Winds >25 knots (12.86 m/s) over Coast, SE, NE & NW Kenya,” the weather forecast stated.

This comes days after the weatherman warned of expected strong winds and large waves across 15 counties.

In the advisory issued on June 13, the listed counties were Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Marsabit, and Turkana.

Also listed were Samburu, Isiolo, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Kitui, and Makueni counties.

"Strong southerly winds of more than 25 knots (12.9 m/s) being experienced over the North-eastern, North-western, South-eastern lowlands and Coastal regions of Kenya on Friday, 13 June 2025 are expected to strengthen to more than 30 knots (15.4 m/s) from Saturday, 14 June 2025 to Tuesday, 17 June 2025.

"Wind speeds are likely to reduce to 25 knots (12.9 m/s) on Wednesday, 18 June 2025," read the notice in part.
