Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen was on Thursday, June 26, heckled after he ordered police officers to shoot any person who attempts to storm a police station.
Speaking after assessing the damage at the Dagoretti Police Post following the June 25 protests, Murkomen told residents that he had instructed officers to shoot anyone who attempts to invade a police station from now on.
"We have told the police to shoot anyone who comes near a police station," Murkomen said.
CS Murkomen’s directive did not sit well with the locals, who heckled him and told him off.
Some of the locals could be heard chanting the ‘wantam’ phrase, which opposition leaders use in campaigning against the re-election of President William Ruto.

Despite the heckling, Murkomen went on to defend his order, saying people trying to steal guns from police stations should not be treated lightly.
“Someone trying to steal a gun, trying to snatch a gun from a police officer… you think that person will just be arrested? No way… someone throwing stones at the police, and you think they’ll be treated gently?” he posed.
CS Murkomen in a presser earlier announced that 5 guns were stolen in Dagoretti during the Wednesday protests.
"The criminals were aiming at the officers on duty. They were after guns in the armouries and police uniforms. Five firearms were stolen in Dagoretti Police Post, Kiambu County, while four were burnt at Gachui Police Post by the very criminals who hid behind the pretence of a peaceful protest,” Murkomen stated.
Consequently, the Interior CS announced that the detectives would be pursuing those individuals.
He described the June 25 protests as an attempted coup, asserting that some politicians were behind the plans to hire goons for the demonstrations.
