The Homa Bay County government has completed the construction of a modern house for the late Albert Ojwang’s parents.
In a statement on Thursday, July 3, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga said Ojwang’s dream to build his parents a new house had been fulfilled even in his absence.

“Today, as we receive Albert’s body home, his dream to build his parents a new house is fulfilled, albeit in his absence. May justice prevail,” she stated.

Ojwang's father, Meshack Opiyo, had lived in a semi-permanent house for years until his son's demise.
Governor Wanga, while visiting Ojwang’s home on June 16, offered to construct a two-bedroom house for the family valued at Ksh1.5 million.

The Homa Bay County boss said the house would be completed before the burial of the late blogger and teacher.
Wanga also promised that the Homa Bay County government would connect electricity to the home.
Ojwang died on June 7 while in police custody at the Central Police Station in Nairobi, hours after his arrest in Homa Bay County.

He was arrested by five Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers acting on a complaint of defamation lodged by Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat.
Ojwang’s death sparked uproar among Kenyans, who took to the streets to protest while mounting pressure on Lagat to leave office and face justice alongside other officers implicated in the murder.
On June 23, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga approved murder charges against Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam and officers James Mukhwana and Peter Kimani over Ojwang’s death.
The DPP also approved murder charges against John Ngige Gitau, Gin Ammitou Abwao, and Brian Mwaniki Njue.
The late Ojwang will be buried on Friday, July 4, 2025.
