Police Spokesperson Michael Muchiri has revealed that there are ongoing investigations to identify goons who were filmed with rungus and canes in the CBD during the recent protests.
Speaking during a media interview on Thursday, July 3, he expressed that the goons had been hired by the business owners within the CBD.
He added that their actions were contrary to the law, as the police are the people mandated to protect lives and property.
Therefore, those responsible will have action taken against them.

"When we saw those images, the Inspector General of Police gave a statement and gave a warning. His warning was to businessmen because there are individuals who lament about damages during protests and hire youth with rungus and canes to protect their businesses.
"Our warning was that the protection of businesses and Kenyans is the work of the police," he stated.
Further, the Spokesperson added that the DCI team was working to identify those who were behind the hiring of goons.
"We currently have videos being analyzed by the forensic team of DCI headquarters. Once everything comes out, we shall take these individuals to court because they are goons. That is what the law says," Muchuri remarked.
The statement by Muchuri comes after the police were accused of being complicit.
There were cases where police were filmed alongside the goons, further piling more pressure on the authorities.
In some instances, as was captured by international journalist Ian Wafula, goons were filmed beating up protesters as police watched without taking any action.
"I’ve just returned from downtown Nairobi, where unidentified armed men were assaulting civilians in full view of police officers, who did nothing to intervene.
"Their identities remain unclear," Wafula reported while covering the protests on June 25.
