The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement following the resurfacing of Ndiang’ui Kinyagia after days of speculation surrounding his whereabouts.
In a statement on Thursday, July 3, NPS noted that Kinyagia who was being sought by authorities is still a person of interest, and urged him to appear before the DCI Headquarters to record a statement.
"Ndiangui Kinyagia had been reported missing, and information circulating on social as well as mainstream media accused the Police Service of allegedly abducting him. Nonetheless, he remains a person of interest to the police and is hereby urged to present himself to the DCI Headquarters to record a statement," the statement read.
NPS denied any involvement in Kinyagia's disappearance and criticized what it described as a dangerous trend of staged abductions and misinformation.
"The Service reiterates its earlier response that Ndiangui Kinyagia was not in police custody. We take great exception to the emerging trend whereby individuals feign abduction and provide false information to the police, intending to generate a misleading narrative that exploits public outrage and sensational headlines, thereby distorting the truth rather than focusing on justice," the statement added.

The NPS cautioned the public against spreading unverified claims and warned of consequences for those who deliberately provide false information to authorities.
"These criminal acts undermine the integrity of our law enforcement efforts, damage the reputation of the National Police Service, and cause anxiety to the public.
"The National Police Service wishes to remind the public that stage-managed abductions and providing false information to the police are criminal offences punishable by law. We therefore warn all persons against engaging in such acts," the statement further read.
Earlier Thursday, Kinyagia's family had confirmed that he is alive, safe, and ready to cooperate with authorities.
In a statement, family lawyer Wahome Thuku announced that Kinyagia made contact with his relatives on Tuesday evening and expressed his willingness to present himself to the DCI.
"Mr Ndiangui who went missing last week has contacted the family and that he is well, healthy and safe. Mr Ndiangui contacted a family member on Tuesday evening from an undisclosed location," the statement reads.
Thuku disclosed that Kinyagia had been in hiding due to concerns for his personal safety after learning that DCI officers were going after him.
"Mr Ndiangui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations," the statement continued.
