Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced the resumption of construction works at Kamariny Stadium in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
In a statement on Friday, July 25, Murkomen confirmed that construction had officially restarted under a new contractor.
"This morning, I assessed the construction of Kamariny Stadium, which has restarted after stalling for quite some time. I am confident that new contractor on site has the capacity to complete the stadium on time and to the required standards," he said.
Murkomen assured the public that the stadium would be completed within a year and that it would meet international standards.
"The 10,000-seater facility, which will be completed in one year, will host ball sports and athletics. Hostels for athletes in camp will be added in phase 2 of the construction," he added.

Kamariny Stadium was opened in 1958 by Queen Elizabeth II, and has served as a training ground for elite Kenyan athletes including David Rudisha and Mary Keitany.
In 2016–2017, the national government allocated Ksh287 million to renovate the stadium.
The plans included a modern eight-lane tartan track, a new football pitch, a VIP pavilion, bleachers, changing rooms, and facilities for field events.
Construction commenced in 2017 with early excavation and leveling done before the contractor abandoned the site around 2018.
Despite repeated efforts, the project stalled indefinitely.
Notably, this new development comes a week after the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) announced that it will oversee the construction and completion of two stadiums and a hospital project in Nakuru County.
KDF made the announcement on Wednesday, July 16, following a meeting between Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
“The Cabinet Secretary and the Governor discussed priority Government infrastructure projects to be implemented by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) through Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in Nakuru County,” the statement read.
The projects include the long-stalled Afraha Stadium, which is now set for completion under the supervision of KDF, and the construction of the Olenguruone Stadium.
Also high on the agenda is the finalization of the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital that has remained incomplete since 2012.
"The Government has prioritized the completion of Afraha Stadium, construction of Olenguruone Stadium and finalization of the Trauma Centre at Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital that has been pending since 2012,” the statement added.
