Comments by a section of her Facebook followers on her post on Monday forced Mutoko to hit back at Kenyans over the hashtag.

Celebrated former radio personality Caroline Mutoko has declined requests by Kenyans to join them in pushing for the hashtag #lowerfoodprices.

The hashtag, which has been trending since Sunday, calls for the government to put measures that will reduce the cost of basic commodities in the country.

Comments by a section of her Facebook followers on her post on Monday forced Mutoko to hit back at Kenyans over the hashtag.

In response to a Kenya identified as Joseph Mutochi who took the comment section n of her post and said "I thought you are helping with #lowerfoodprices being a known person", Mutoko said, "Nope. Not boarding".

She listed five reasons why she was not going to join Kenyans in their call for a reduction in the cost of living.

" I have checked Uhuru, Raila and Ruto's pages and anyone in elected office or running for office and I haven't seen more than 10 tweets of them with this hashtag. You are coming here for what? You did not vote for me," Mutoko fired at Mutochi.

She further stated that she won't participate in the hashtag because it is simply sponsored.

Mutoko appeared to suggest that someone somewhere is benefiting from the way Kenyans are tweeting and posting the hashtag on social media.

"It is a sponsored hashtag. Really!! I hope you're getting paid enough for your next meal because someone is certainly making money. Why do we agree to be wasted like this?" she posed on her fifth reason.

Mutoko went further and reacted to another comment where she appeared to attack Kenyans for their choices when it comes to voting during elections.

"You are hungry until you remember the person running for elections is your tribesmen. Hunger knows no race or tribe," she said in response to a post by Gilbert Koech.

The hashtag has been dominating social media with Kenyans calling for a reduction in the cost of living.
