Central Highlands, South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Rift Valley will experience cold nights of below 10°C.

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has predicted that light rainfall and cold conditions will continue this week.

In a weather forecast on Monday, July 28, KMD said light rainfall would be experienced in the Central Highlands, which includes Nairobi County.

The Western Kenya and Coast regions are also expected to experience light showers this week.

“Light rainfall is expected in a few areas of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, and the Coast,” the Met Department stated.

The weatherman also predicted that cold and cloudy conditions are expected in parts of the Central Highlands and Western Kenya.

Meanwhile, the North-eastern and North-western Kenya regions are set to experience high daytime temperatures of above 30°C.

On the other hand, Central Highlands, South-eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Rift Valley will experience cold nights of below 10°C through the week.

The Met Department further warned of strong Southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots over the Coast and Kenya’s territorial waters.

The strong winds will also be experienced in the South-eastern lowlands and the North-eastern and North-western Kenya regions.

“Strong southerly to south-easterly winds (≥25 knots) expected in Coastal areas, SE Lowlands, NE, and NW Kenya,” the Met Department added.

On Monday, the weatherman attributed the cold and cloudy July weather conditions to terrestrial and atmospheric factors.

In a statement, KMD noted that stratified clouds cover the central highlands, Nairobi, parts of the Rift Valley, and southeastern Kenya in July, limiting sunshine and surface heating.

The department also said high-pressure systems influence atmospheric stability, supporting the formation of cloud blankets that trap cold air and suppress warming.

Further, the weatherman explained that cool, dry continental air masses from the south affect Kenya in July, enhancing the chill conditions.
