Police have arrested several suspected members of a notorious criminal gang in Kwale County, including a man wanted for murder, following a successful raid in the Lunga Lunga area.
According to a statement by the National Police Service (NPS) released on Saturday, August 2, officers from Lunga Lunga Police Station launched the operation on Friday, August 1, after receiving a credible tip-off about the gang's hideout in Ngeneni, Lunga Lunga Township.
“One of the individuals, believed to be a key gang member, is wanted on an active arrest warrant for murder and had reportedly been spotted in the company of his accomplices in the area,” the NPS noted.
Officers swiftly moved in and raided a single-room house, where they found the suspects armed with machetes and smoking cannabis sativa.
A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of about 257 grams of cannabis, five machetes, and a black Tanzanian-registered motorcycle bearing registration number MC890, suspected to have been used in various criminal activities.
