Registration for the Biometric Health Identification System is available at Level 4,5, and 6 health facilities countrywide.

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has launched the Biometric Health Identification system for the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Speaking on Monday, August 4, during the launch of the biometric system, CS Duale said the system will help the Ministry of Health to eliminate fraud and misuse of the benefits.

“This innovation will secure access to health services without having physical documents. Your fingerprint will verify your identity securely.

“This biometric will help us in eliminating fraud and misuse of the benefits. It will also reduce paperwork, shorten queues of patients, and ensure more time is spent on patient care,” said Duale.

The Health CS noted that the biometric registration is available across level 4,5, and 6 health facilities countrywide.

“Biometric registration is now live in all level 4,5, and 6 facilities with ongoing efforts to onboard level 3 and level 2 facilities across the country,” Duale stated.

At the same time, CS Duale announced that SHA will no longer accept OTP based authorization.

He explained that all SHA approvals will now be completed through the biometric health ID or the Practice 360 app.

“With immediate effect, SHA will no longer accept OTP based authorization. All approvals must be completed using either biometric health ID or the Practice 360 app,” Duale remarked.

Further, the Health CS directed all pharmaceutical companies to upload certified product data on the national product catalogue within 30 days.

Duale warned the companies that failure to comply with the directive would result in their deregistration and de-listing from the SHA ecosystem.
