Twenty-one people have lost their lives in a tragic road accident that occurred on Friday, August 8, at the Coptic area along the Kisumu-Kakamega road.
According to Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Peter Maina, the victims include 10 men, 10 women, and an eight-month-old baby.
The fatal crash happened when a school bus, which was ferrying mourners from Nyahera in Kisumu County, rolled while attempting to navigate a corner.
Maina confirmed that 20 other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and were rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Five of the survivors are reported to be in critical condition.

Sadly, this comes a day after nine people died after a train collided with a staff bus belonging to Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) near the Morendat Training and Conference Centre (MTCC) in Naivasha.
In a statement on Thursday, August 7, KPC said the tragic incident occurred as the KPC bus, which was ferrying employees from the MTCC after a morning shift, attempted to cross the railway line.
The train struck the vehicle at a level crossing, leading to multiple fatalities and injuries.
KPC confirmed the accident through an official statement, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life.
"With a heavy heart, we wish to bring to your attention an accident involving a Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) staff bus and a Kenya Railway train that occurred this afternoon on the railway crossing just before our Morendat Training and Conference Centre (MTCC)," the statement read.
Earlier Thursday, six people were confirmed dead after an aircraft operated by AMREF Flying Doctors crashed in the Mwihoko, Githurai 45.
Speaking at the crash site, Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula said the incident claimed the lives of two doctors, two nurses, and two civilians who were on the ground when the plane came down.
He further revealed that several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital.
"We have already evacuated the seriously injured to the hospital to be attended to. The injured included an old lady and a house help," he said.
