President William Ruto has expressed his condolences to the families of the 21 people who lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway on Friday, August 8.
In his statement, Ruto conveyed sympathy and prayers to the victims and their families, while also wishing a quick recovery for those injured.
“Our prayers are with the victims of the terrible accident that occurred tonight on the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway. May the Almighty give strength to the families to bear with the loss. We wish speedy recovery to the injured,” he said.
Ruto also directed traffic enforcement officers to take immediate action against any acts of negligence that may have contributed to the crash.
“We ask traffic enforcers to act swiftly to bring to book those responsible for any acts of negligence leading to the accident and address all traffic violations to ensure road safety across the country,” he added.

The accident occurred at the Coptic area.
According to Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Peter Maina, the victims include 10 men, 10 women, and an eight-month-old baby.
The fatal crash happened when a school bus, which was ferrying mourners from Nyahera in Kisumu County, rolled while attempting to navigate a corner.
Maina confirmed that 20 other passengers sustained injuries in the accident and were rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Five of the survivors are reported to be in critical condition.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula is among leaders who also sent their condolences to the families of the victims.
"I am saddened to learn of the devastating road accident that has claimed lives & leaving others with injuries. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the 21 souls lost in the Kisumu bus tragedy.
"I urge all road users to exercise caution as every life matters. Let us uphold road safety as a shared national responsibility. May the departed Rest in Peace," he said.
On his part, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o expressed his condolences and said the County Government is working with the relevant authorities to provide support.
"It is with a very heavy heart that I have learnt of the tragic road accident on the Kisumu - Kakamega Highway this evening. My sincere condolences to the families and friends who have lost their loved ones in the accident. On behalf of the County Government of Kisumu, we condole with the bereaved and offer our prayers to those who sustained injuries and continue to receive medication attention at different facilities.
"We stand with the people of Nyakach and Nyahera during this trying moment. My Office is working with all the relevant authorities to provide any requisite support at the moment as we continue to urge for caution on our roads and by the road users," he said.
