President William Ruto has revoked the appointment of Mary Wambui Mungai as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Communications Authority (CA) Board and replaced her with Charles Kamau Karondo.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, August 8, 2025, Karondo will take the role for a three-year term, effective immediately.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint- Charles Kamau Karondo to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Communications Authority, for three (3) years, with effect from 8th August, 2025. The appointment of Mary Wambui Mungai is revoked,” the gazette notice read.
In a separate appointment, Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Murithi Mugaa announced that Mary Wambui Mungai would now serve as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Athi Water Works Development Agency Board.

Her appointment under the Water Act also takes effect from August 8, 2025, for a three-year term.
The move sees Mungai replace Charles Kamau Karondo, whose appointment to the Athi Water Works Development Agency Board has been revoked.
The reshuffle effectively swaps the leadership roles between Mungai and Karondo in the two key state agencies.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 66 (1) (a) of the Water Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, appoints-Mary Wambui Mungai to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Athi Water Works Development Agency... The appointment of Charles Kamau Karondo is revoked,” the gazette notice stated.
