Police have recovered a stolen firearm and several other items following an operation in Madogo, Tana River County.
In a statement on Wednesday, August 13, the National Police Service said the recovery followed a swift operation by officers from Garissa County.
"Today, 13th August 2025, Police officers from Garissa County, led by the Deputy RCIO of the North Eastern Region, conducted an operation in Madogo to recover a firearm stolen during a violent robbery reported at Garissa Police Station on 5th August 2025," the statement read.
According to NPS, police officers traced the suspect to her home, where the firearm was recovered after receiving actionable intelligence.
"Acting on intelligence, the team, in collaboration with officers from Madogo Police Station, escorted a female suspect to her residence in Bula Kartasi Estate, Madogo.

'A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of a Glock pistol with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition," the statement added.

Other than the firearm, several other stolen items were also recovered from the house.
"Also recovered were the complainant’s wallet, holding his national identity card and his wife’s ID card, a Kenya Police Service Certificate of Appointment, military identification card, smock jacket, police belt, and several swords among other items," the statement concluded.
The suspect is in police custody, awaiting processing and arraignment in court.
Notably, this comes not long after police in Trans Nzoia County recovered a G3 rifle and 18 rounds of ammunition from a suspect's house.
In a statement on Saturday, July 26, the National Police Service said the dramatic recovery followed a tip-off from a concerned employer who believed one of their workers was in possession of an illegal firearm.
"Yesterday, Friday, July 25, police officers at Maili Saba Police Station received a report from an employer who suspected that one of their employees was in possession of an illegal firearm,” the statement read.
According to NPS, officers from Maili Saba Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), responded swiftly and launched a targeted search operation on the premises.
"In response, officers led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) swiftly proceeded to the scene, where they conducted an extensive search that led to the recovery of a G3 rifle loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition," the statement added.
The weapon had been discreetly hidden in a hen coop, raising fears of possible criminal activity involving illegal arms in the area.
"The weapon had been concealed between two unmounted flat doors in an unused hen coop. Officers are currently in pursuit of the suspect, an employee at the premises, who fled the scene," the statement further read.
