In March this year, President Ruto carried out another wave of significant changes within the Foreign Service, nominating a mix of career diplomats, retired military officers, and former political leaders to key roles abroad.

Among the notable picks was former Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, who was tapped to serve as Kenya’s Ambassador to Egypt, alongside former Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, who was nominated as High Commissioner to Uganda.

The changes also marked a return to public service for former Communications Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba, who was proposed to take up the Consul-General role in Los Angeles, USA. If confirmed, he would replace Thomas Kwaka Omolo, who had held the position since May 2022.

The President also nominated recently retired senior military officers to diplomatic roles, including Lt. Gen. Peter Mbogo Njiru for Islamabad, Pakistan, and Lt. Gen. Jonah Mwangi for Tehran, Iran.
