Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has announced plans to rename the party.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 20, Malala said they are considering changing the name from Democracy for Citizens Party to Democratic Citizens Party.
Malala explained that when they were registering the DCP party, they had a lot of tension and were not sure of the name.
“We are considering changing the name to the Democratic Citizens Party, because in terms of semantics, it fits better.
“By the time we were registering it, we had tension, we were not sure, but now we will make a proposal for it to be the Democratic Citizens party, a party of the people,” said Malala.

The party, which is headed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was unveiled on May 15, 2025, at its headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.
The DCP party's symbol is a hand holding an ear, symbolizing the act of listening to netizens, with its official colors being green, red, white, and black.
The party’s slogan is skiza aakenya (listen to kenyans), while its motto is a commitment to deliberate, sustained listening and genuine engagement.
“I made a promise to you that in May 2025, I would unveil a new political party whose philosophy resonates with you. As you all know, I am an honest and truthful man; I keep my word and promises; I detest lies, and that is why I disagreed with the liar number one.
"We finally have a political party where every Kenyan is treated equally. Our new party is the Democracy for Citizens Party,” Gachagua said during the launch of the party.
Gachagua named former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi as the party’s National Organizing Secretary, former Laikipia Women Rep Cate Waruguru the National Women Leader, and Hezron Obanga as the party’s Secretary General.
