Police officers have arrested two foreign nationals and a Kenyan for cultivating bhang in Diani.

Police officers in Kwale County have arrested three suspects, including two foreign nationals, in connection with cultivating bhang in Mwabungo Village, Diani. 

In a statement on Tuesday, September 2, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the three suspects were apprehended following a multi-agency operation led by the Diani OCS.

The officers raided a residence and uncovered a cannabis plantation that had been converted into a fully operational grow house.

“Three individuals, including two foreign nationals, have been arrested in Mwabungo Village, Diani, following a multi-agency operation targeting illegal drug cultivation.

“Acting on credible intelligence, officers led by the Diani OCS raided a residence in the Romika area, where they discovered a cannabis plantation,” read the DCI statement in part.

Those arrested include Wegener Geb Sikora and Heck Klaus Edmund, both German nationals holding tourist visas, and Anastasia Wangare, a Kenyan citizen.

According to the DCI, all three suspects were found at the scene and taken into custody.

“The suspects, Wegener Geb Sikora (66) and Heck Klaus Edmund (69), both German nationals holding tourist visas, and Anastasia Wangare (27), a Kenyan citizen, were found at the scene and taken into custody,” DCI stated.

The suspects were handed over to Coast Region Anti-Narcotics detectives for further investigation.

Meanwhile, crime scene investigators have processed and documented the site, which had been converted into a fully operational grow house.

This comes days after police officers from Gesonso Police Station in Kisii County arrested 43-year-old John Njomo Ndung’u and seized a substantial haul of bhang. 

The officers had mounted a roadblock along the Migori–Kisumu highway to stop a suspicious, dark grey Toyota Sienta.

The driver, however, defied orders to stop and sped through, ramming over metal spikes in a desperate bid to escape.

The police officers chased after the suspect and arrested him after the tires of the vehicle were deflated.

Police officers recovered five and a half gunny bags of bhang stashed inside the vehicle, and the narcotics were secured as exhibits.

The suspect was taken into custody pending arraignment in court.
