President William Ruto has revoked Samier Muravvej's appointment as the non-executive chairperson of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC).
In a Gazette notice published on Friday, September 6, the Head of State terminated Dr. Muravvej's position immediately, only a few months after the appointment.
"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act and Regulation 3 (1) (a) of the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council Order, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of— SAMIER MURAVVEJ (DR.),” the Gazette notice reads.
However, in what appears to be a strategic repositioning, the same gazette notice reveals that Dr. Muravvej has been appointed as the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service for a three-year term, effective September 5, 2025.
"IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 11 (1) (a) of the Fisheries Management and Development Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint— SAMIER MURAVVEJ (DR.) to be the non-executive Chairperson of the Kenya Fisheries Service, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 5th September, 2025,” the notice added.

These changes come months after the head of state made key appointments in public health agencies.

In a gazette notice published on July 25, President Ruto had initially appointed Dr. Muravvej to lead the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council. Muravvej previously served as board chair at Kenyatta National Hospital.
During the same period, the administration appointed new chairpersons to other critical health bodies, including leadership changes at the Kenya National Public Health Institute and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council, where Ruto appointed Fredrick Namenya Were as chairperson for a three-year term.
On the same date, the president appointed Paul Ndung’u Kariuki as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya National Public Health Institute for three years.
