Police officers in Turkana County are pursuing a suspect who attempted to kidnap a 16-year-old girl in Kaapus location.
In a statement on Monday, September 8, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Lorugum Police Station received a tip from members of the public about the suspect
The man who was armed with an AK-47 rifle stormed a home in Kaapus and tried to forcibly take away the 16-year-old girl.
The officers led by the Lorugum Officer Commanding Station (OCS) responded to the incident, but the suspect managed to escape.
“Acting on a tip-off from members of the public concerning an armed and dangerous suspect from Kaapus location who had stormed a home and demanded to forcibly take away a 16-year-old girl, a team of officers from Lorugum Police Station, led by the OCS, responded swiftly,” NPS stated.

The officers successfully recovered an AK-47 firearm loaded with six rounds of ammunition and one spent cartridge at the scene.
The team has since launched a manhunt for the suspect to ensure his arrest and subsequent arraignment in court.
“A manhunt is ongoing to apprehend him so he may face the relevant charges in court. The recovered exhibit has been secured,” NPS stated.
Further, the service commended members of the public for their vigilance and urged continued cooperation with security agencies.
This comes a day after a multi-agency security team conducted an intelligence-led operation in Elgeyo Marakwet and intercepted a suspected bandit.
The team recovered one AK-47 rifle, twelve rounds of ammunition, two magazines, and a smoke jacket from the suspect.
The suspect was taken into custody pending processing and arraignment in court, while the exhibits were secured as evidence.
On September 5, Detectives from the DCI headquarters arrested six suspects linked to a spate of incidents of gang terror within Kajiado County.
Detectives first arrested five suspects in Kagio, Kirinyaga County, while they were on board a vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of assorted items, including a walkie-talkie, several SIM cards, cello tape, mobile phones, spotlights, and surgical gloves.
The detectives extended the operation to Kiserian town in Kajiado County, where another suspect was arrested.
The officers recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, a walkie-talkie, a teargas canister, house-breaking tools, and other items.
