Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed that detectives investigating the killing of Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu have made progress and already identified persons of interest.
Speaking on Thursday, September 11, Murkomen said authorities were working closely with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
"Being in a position of responsibility, and we have been in touch with the DCI since this issue occurred. I am happy to note that progress has been made: some persons of interest have already been identified, they are being interrogated, and many others will also be sought. I pray that the DCI will be successful," he said.
Murkomen also commended members of the public who have provided crucial leads, adding that citizen cooperation is vital in resolving the case.
"We thank the eyewitnesses who were at the scene and have already come forward, as well as many other Kenyans of goodwill who are providing information to the DCI. I encourage more Kenyans to step forward and assist in the process.

"Anyone who knows anything related to this heinous act should come out, because it is in the interest of both the security sector and the people of Kenya that the truth comes out and we fully understand what happened in this situation," he added.
Murkomen assured that the investigation was being handled with urgency and transparency, adding that the government would not apply selective treatment in cases involving high-profile individuals.
"I am very optimistic that in a short while we will have very good leads regarding this issue. I also want to emphasize that it is not in our interest to interfere in cases involving prominent persons; this is the same speed that must be applied in every case," he further said.
Earlier Thursday, government pathologist Johansen Oduor revealed that Mbobu was shot eight times in the Tuesday evening incident.
Speaking after conducting an autopsy on the body, Oduor explained that the shooter was at close range during the incident.
According to the autopsy report, Kyalo died as a result of severe injuries and over-bleeding from the gunshot wounds sustained during the shooting.
This development came after Mbobu's family made their first public statement, calling on the government and law enforcement agencies to expedite investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In an emotional appeal, Mbobu's mother described her son's character and pleaded for government intervention.
"Kyalo was a good person. He was so good to me; he has done so many good things for me. I'm begging the government to intervene and do something about this," she said.
The victim's younger brother, who is also a lawyer, revealed how he learned of the tragedy.
"I learned of my brother's passing through social media," he stated, highlighting the devastating nature of the loss.
He further made a broader appeal for public safety, emphasizing the need for citizens to feel secure in their daily activities.
"We appeal to the government to investigate this. We need a country where we feel safe driving around and walking around. While at our daily hustles, we do not need to keep alert and wonder when someone might come and attack us," he added.
