The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has confirmed that a number of candidates have been handed direct tickets ahead of the upcoming by-elections.
In a statement on Friday, September 12, ODM National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) Chairperson Emily Awita said two aspirants were handed direct tickets while some wards had only one aspirant, making them automatic flagbearers.
"On behalf of the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), I wish to note that Magarini Constituency and Fafi Ward candidates were awarded direct tickets by the Party. In addition, in Chewani, Kisa East, Purko, Angata Nyanyokie, and Namaan Wards, the aspirants had no opponents," she said.
According to the party, those who have secured direct tickets include Harrison Kombe (Magarini Constituency), Salimu Mohamed (Chewani Ward) and Thomas Eshuya Oyolo (Kisa East Ward).
Others are Daniel Naikuni (Purko Ward), Letoluai Loisia (Angata Nanyokie Ward), Feisal Gedi (Fafi Ward) and Mohammed Yussuf (Naanam Ward).

At the same time, the party has set dates for primaries in seats with multiple aspirants, emphasizing that it is well-prepared to conduct the exercise where contests exist.
"For the remaining seats where there is more than one aspirant, I want to assure you that the party primaries will be conducted between September 24 and 27, 2025. The NECC is fully prepared and will ensure that the exercise is free, fair, transparent, and credible," she added.
Awita further reinstated ODM’s pledge to uphold democratic values in its internal processes and beyond.
"As ODM, we have always demonstrated readiness to provide leadership in strengthening democracy within our party and across the nation. We reiterate our commitment to offering the people of Kenya the very best in terms of representation, leadership, and governance," she further said.
ODM earlier invited interested aspirants to submit their applications for party nominations in both parliamentary and county assembly seats declared vacant by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a notice on Friday, August 29, Awita confirmed that the invitation follows the electoral body’s Gazette Notice declaring vacancies in multiple electoral areas.
"Pursuant to the declaration by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of vacancies in various electoral areas across the country, vide Gazette Notice No. 11160 of 8th August 2025, The National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) hereby gives notice to all interested applicants in the following electoral areas to submit applications, in the prescribed format, to the Party Headquarters at Chungwa House by 5:00 p.m., Monday 8th September 2025," the notice read.
The vacant parliamentary seats are in Ugunja and Kasipul constituencies, while county assembly vacancies have been declared in Mumbuni North, Kisa East, Lake Zone, Nanaam and Chewani wards.
County assembly vacancies are also available in Angata Nanyokie, Narok Town, Purko, Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo, and Kariobangi North wards.
In terms of nominated fees, male aspirants for parliamentary seats will be required to pay Ksh250,000, while female candidates, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will pay Ksh125,000.
For county assembly seats, male applicants will pay Ksh50,000, while female candidates, youth, and PWDs will pay Ksh25,000.
