The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) has announced the release of over Ksh422 million in cash transfers to households in arid regions under the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP).
In a statement on Monday, September 22, the NDMA confirmed that the money was transferred to over 130,000 beneficiaries.
"The Government, through the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), has disbursed Ksh422,458,200 as cash transfers to 132,779 beneficiary households under the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP) across eight arid counties.
"The disbursement includes stipends for August 2025, amounting to Ksh358,503,300 for 132,779 households," the statement read.
The funds were released to vulnerable households across several counties, including Turkana where Ksh107,543,700 was disbursed to 39,831 households and Mandera where 22,107 households received Ksh59,688,900.

Marsabit was allocated Ksh55,044,900 to benefit 20,387 households, and Wajir received Ksh51,761,700 for 19,171 households.
In Garissa, 9,217 households shared Ksh24,885,900, while Samburu received Ksh21,918,600 for 8,118 households.
Tana River was allocated Ksh19,788,300 for 7,329 households, and Isiolo received KSh17,871,300 to support 6,619 households.
Additionally, NDMA confirmed that stipends for 23,687 households in four sub-counties of Turkana County for July 2025 were included in the disbursement.
In Turkana North, 6,833 households received Ksh18,449,100, while Turkana South saw 6,751 households benefit from Ksh18,227,700.
Loima was allocated Ksh17,147,700 for 6,351 households, and Turkana East received Ksh10,130,400 to support 3,752 households.
NDMA announced that beneficiaries will be able to access the funds through financial service providers.
"Beneficiaries will access the funds through Kenya Commercial Bank and Equity Bank branches and agents in their counties. Registered beneficiaries with pending Payment Service Provider-related issues are advised to visit their nearest bank branch to update their details in order to access their stipends," the statement concluded.
Earlier in the month, NDMA announced that it had disbursed Ksh294.5 million to vulnerable households in eight arid counties under the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP).
In a statement on Tuesday, September 2, NDMA CEO Hared Adan said the funds will be available in beneficiaries’ accounts by Wednesday, September 3.
"The Government, through the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA), has disbursed Ksh294,494,400 to 109,072 households across eight arid counties under the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP).
"The funds will be available in beneficiaries' accounts at Kenya Commercial Bank and Equity Bank agents and branches by Wednesday, 3rd September 2025," the statement read.
According to Adan, each household will receive a monthly cash transfer of Ksh2,700 under the programme which is part of the Inua Jamii social protection plan.
"Each beneficiary household receives a monthly stipend of Ksh2,700 through the HSNP, which is implemented by NDMA in the eight arid counties.
"The cash transfer initiative is part of the Kenya Social and Economic Inclusion Project (KSEIP) under the Government’s broader Inua Jamii social protection programme," the statement added.
The disbursed funds were allocated across the eight counties, with Garissa receiving Ksh24,877,800 for 9,214 households, Isiolo Ksh17,882,100 for 6,623 households, and Mandera Ksh59,675,400 for 22,102 households.
Marsabit was allocated Ksh55,047,600 for 20,388 households, Samburu Ksh21,910,500 for 8,115 households, and Tana River Ksh19,780,200 for 7,326 households.
Turkana West and Central constituencies received Ksh43,583,400 for 16,142 households, while Wajir was allocated Ksh51,737,400 for 19,162 households.
