“Our attention has been drawn to the emerging culture of impunity and lawlessness among Boda Boda riders, posing a great risk to public safety and security. Recent incidents indicate that victims of accidents where Boda boda riders are involved have been assaulted and in some instances, their vehicles burnt,” said Mutyambai in a statement.
“It is against this backdrop that I caution all Boda Boda riders and operators against such uncouth and uncivilized manner of addressing issues. This is in contrast to the stipulated laws and regulations in the country.”
He stated that if arrested, Boda Boda riders will be personally be held responsible for any such incidents.
Mutyambai adds that the police service will map out regions prone to such cases and carry out security operations to address the problem.
“Boda Boda riders must adhere to all traffic regulations, and all laws of public order and decency, failure to which they will be dealt with in accordance with the law, individually. All police officers have been directed to be on the lookout to take the necessary lawful action against any Boda Boda rider found to be taking the law into their own hands,” Mutyambai said.
