KURA has announced a temporary closure of Jamuhuri Road for two days.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary closure of Jamuhuri Road for two days.

In a notice on Thursday, October 9, KURA Director General Silas Kinoti said the road will be closed from Friday, October 10, at 11 PM to Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Kinoti explained that the closure of the road will facilitate the construction of drainage and sewer infrastructure, which are part of the Talanta Sports City Project at Jamhuri Sports Grounds.

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to notify the general public of the closure of Jamhuri Road from 8:00 PM on Friday, 10th October 2025, to 11:00 PM on Sunday, 12th October 2025.

“This is due to the construction of essential drainage and sewer infrastructure as part of the Talanta Sports City Project at Jamhuri Sports Grounds,” read the notice in part.

Construction works at the Talanta Sports Stadium.

Kinoti advised motorists to use Sanctuary Road and Kibera Drive to reach their destinations.

The KURA Director General further apologized to motorists for the inconvenience that would be caused by the temporary closure of the Jamuhuri Road.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause during this period,” Kinoti added.

The closure of the road comes weeks after Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said extensive drainage installations will be set up at the Talanta Stadium to ensure both functionality and structural sustainability.

The 60,000-spectator capacity stadium, which has been under construction since March 2024, is expected to be completed by December 2025.

The stadium is set to feature seven changing rooms, VIP lounges, modern locker rooms, advanced media centers, VAR booths, and goal-line technology.

On September 12, Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Office of the President, Dennis Itumbi, announced that the 2025 Jamhuri Day Celebrations will be held at the stadium.

“This year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations will be held under the general theme of Tourism, Wildlife, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). Talanta Stadium will host the country on 12th December 2025,” he announced.
