CS Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that only 500 people will be allowed entry to the gravesite of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that only 500 people will be allowed entry to the gravesite of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Sunday, October 19, at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology in Siaya, Murkomen said security officers have been deployed to manage the large crowd attending Raila’s funeral service.

“All the events will happen here at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University. Only a few people will be allowed to access his home. The security personnel are well prepared and stationed in every corner.

“At most, maybe 500 people will be granted access. But of course, you work with the times and the challenges. Sometimes you want to lock out people, but you find they are relatives. We will make sure that we adhere to the number. There is something solemn about the last rites which the family must go through,” said Murkomen.

The Interior CS urged members of the public to allow Raila’s family to respect their wishes and allow them to complete the burial properly.

“I want to request our people that we become very sensitive and give the family the moment to go through the emotions in terms of the burial itself,” Murkomen added.

This comes days after Raila’s elder brother Oburu Odinga said only a few people will be allowed in the burial ceremony.

“Raila will be buried next to our mum and dad in a private burial which will be attended only by a few people,” Oburu said on Thursday, October 16.

Raila passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80 after suffering a cardiac arrest during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic treatment facility in India.

The ODM leader was rushed to a private hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The former Prime Minister will be laid to rest at the Kang'o Kajaramogi mausoleum in Bondo, Siaya county, after the funeral service at JOOUST.
