A group of young performers moved the nation with an emotional tribute to the late Raila Odinga during the Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County on Monday, October 20.

The children delivered a touching poem honoring the former Prime Minister, who passed away at the age of 80, celebrating his legacy of unity and peace.

"Our father. Sleep well. Sleep well our hero. Our light. You fought for peace and togetherness. You lit the fire of goodness and kindness. Your voice is silent, but your soul lives forever," the young voices recited in Swahili.

The performance highlighted Raila's commitment to national unity and his efforts to bridge ethnic divides across the country.

"You loved everyone equally without discriminating. You brought together tribes. Goodbye our hero. And thank you," the children continued, their words resonating deeply with the thousands gathered at the venue.

In a visually striking display, the performers arranged themselves to spell out "SHUJAA RAILA" as they narrated the poem, creating powerful imagery that captured the essence of the celebration.

The tribute was part of the broader Mashujaa Day festivities, which drew massive crowds to the 10,000-capacity stadium.

Gates opened as early as 4 AM, and by 8:30 AM, the venue was already filled to capacity with eager residents from Kitui and beyond.

This year's celebrations, presided over by President William Ruto with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye as chief guest, honored 184 individuals for their contributions to the nation.

Among those recognized were Citizen TV news anchor Mwanahamisi Hamadi for her empowering program Mwanamke Bomba, music producer Clemo, musician Jua Cali, literary icon Professor Ngugi wa Thiong'o, and several Harambee Stars players.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and other senior government officials were also in attendance.

Mashujaa Day, observed annually on October 20, pays tribute to Kenyans who made significant contributions to the country's independence struggle and continues to celebrate those who exemplify heroism in modern Kenya.
