Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has suspended all non-essential services in the county for a period of 30 days.
Addressing the media on Friday, April 2, 2021, the governor revealed that a senior official in the department of planning and housing had succumbed to Covid-19.
Kahiga added that five other county officials are currently admitted and being treated for the virus.
He declared that only health, finance, and few other emergency services will continue to be offered uninterrupted.

The governor ordered all county staffers outside of the said departments to work from home for the period declared.
Kahiga stated that his administration will allow staffers aged 58 and above working in the essential service departments to also work from home.
In a move to cushion businesses against the adversities of the pandemic, the governor announced a waiver on penalties against those who were yet to pay for their business licenses.
Kahiga also announced that there will be a 50 percent cut on business license fees over the course of the pandemic.
