The government has barred the private sector from importation, distribution, and administration of Covid-19 vaccines.
Speaking on Friday CS Mutahi Kagwe said the process has been halted until the private sector shows transparency and accountability.
"The government is effective today closing the window of private sector importation, distribution, and administration of vaccines until such a time when it is confident that there are greater transparency and accountability in the entire process," Kagwe said.
"There will be no licensing of private players in the importation of vaccines and any such license given will be and is hereby terminated… The only agent for vaccination in Kenya will remain the government of the Republic of Kenya until further notice," he added.
The Health CS said the government is engaging stakeholders like Covax, Africa CDC to access more vaccines.
