Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has written to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja demanding immediate action against individuals allegedly threatening election violence in Mbeere North Constituency ahead of the upcoming by-election.
In a letter dated November 12, 2025, Gachagua raised alarm over widely circulated social media videos showing individuals issuing threats of violence ahead of the November 27 polls in Mbeere North, which he says the IG is aware of.
The former Deputy President identified specific individuals he claims are threatening violence, including Simon Njagi Njiru (alias Gitundu wa Gitundu), Josiah Kariuki Ngari (alias Mtetezi Puff), and Susan Nyaga, among others.
Gachagua stated that these individuals have issued threats of violence against him and Mbeere North residents when he campaigns for his preferred candidate from November 16 to 24, 2025.
"Despite the evidence and information in your custody, the above persons have not been arraigned. We demand that ahead of the by-elections, the above persons must be arrested immediately, arraigned and charged under the penal code," the letter reads.

The DCP leader further alleged that people appearing in the threatening video are closely associated with senior government officials, specifically naming Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Cabinet Secretary Hon. Geoffrey Ruku.
"We further demand that the people of Mbeere North be allowed to exercise their democratic right to vote a candidate of their choice; no one shall be allowed to force a candidate to the people," he stated.
The former Deputy President reminded IG Kanja of his service to the nation in various capacities, including as the second Deputy President of Kenya, and urged him to fulfill his civic responsibility by addressing the security concerns.
"It will go down in history that you are the only IG in Kenya to have presided over epochs and a total breakdown of the rule of law in Kenya. A criminal charade has taken toll on Kenyans; no one feels safe in our cities or villages as you watch and enjoy full information and power to stop the mess," Gachagua wrote.
Gachagua informed the IG that he will be in Mbeere North Constituency from November 16 to November 24, 2025, to campaign for his preferred candidate as part of his constitutional rights.
The DCP leader stated that he has credible intelligence that state-sponsored goons harassing him and his supporters have been fully mobilized for Mbeere North ahead of his arrival.
"Further, be informed that we have credible intelligence of the government's plans to disrupt the electoral process in Mbeere North, a matter that the people of Kenya shall not accept," he warned.
Gachagua urged the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Erastus Edung, to take note and responsibility for the electoral malpractices by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and government, demanding that the commission disqualify them immediately.
The letter comes amid rising tensions surrounding the Mbeere North by-election. Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria previously raised concerns about potential disruption of Gachagua's campaign activities in the constituency.
Kuria had alleged that there was a scheme to cause disorder during Gachagua's tour, with individuals planning to dress in Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) uniforms to create chaos.
He emphasized that his party maintains a firm position against electoral violence, citing lessons from the 2007-2008 post-election violence.
The former presidential advisor had questioned whether the 2027 elections would be conducted fairly, expressing frustration that his concerns raised with the Electoral Operations Commissioner had not resulted in any action.
Kuria's statements followed the circulation of a video showing a group of individuals issuing threats against Gachagua ahead of his scheduled visit to campaign for Democratic Party candidate Newton Karish.
