President William Ruto has appointed Michael Thoyah Kingi, brother to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi and former Magarini MP, to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC). 

The appointment was confirmed in a gazette notice, indicating that Kingi will serve as a Member of the Commission for the next six years.

In a statement on Monday, November 17, Kingi expressed his gratitude to God, the president, and parliament for the appointment and expressed his readiness to serve the country.

"Grateful to God for the gift of life, President for the appointment and parliament for the approval. Ready to serve my Country in this new capacity," he said.

Kingi gratuated a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

His early career saw him work in project supervision roles at firms such as Casuarina Enterprises Ltd and Maritech Engineering Ltd.

Kingi later transitioned to public service roles, including serving as a Water Officer at the Coast Development Authority and subsequently holding leadership positions at Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company, first as Superintendent and later as Technical & Operations Manager. 

Before his entry into elective politics, he served as the Managing Director of Malindi Water and Sewerage Company from 2015 to 2017.

In 2017, Kingi was elected as the Member of Parliament for Magarini Constituency under the ODM Party ticket, where he served until 2022.

During his tenure in the National Assembly, he was a member of key committees, including the Public Accounts Committee and the Committee on Implementation.

This comes months after Ruto appointed Prof. Makau Mutua as the Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 30, Ruto praised Mutua’s extensive background in legal and constitutional matters, and welcomed him to his team.

"I have appointed Prof Makau Mutua as the Senior Advisor of Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President. Prof Mutua brings a wealth of experience in legal, constitutional and human rights matters.

"Congratulations Prof Mutua. I welcome you to join a dynamic team of public servants in the implementation of our Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda," he wrote on social media platform X.

Reacting to the appointment, Mutua expressed gratitude to Ruto for the appointment and promised to serve with diligence and distinction. 

"I am grateful to His Excellency President William Ruto for appointing me Senior Advisor on Constitutional Affairs in the Executive Office of the President. Our Constitution is the beating heart of the Republic. Mr President, I promise to serve you and our fellow citizens with diligence, honor, and distinction," he stated.
