The National Police Service (NPS) has cautioned Kenyans about fake social media accounts posing as official NPS platforms.
In an update on Tuesday, December 2, NPS noted that the pseudo accounts are being used to defraud and misinform members of the public.
The service advised Kenyans to take extreme caution and not to interact with the fake social media accounts.
“It has come to our attention that numerous fake or pseudo social media accounts are purporting to represent the National Police Service (NPS).
“These fraudulent accounts are designed to mislead, defraud, or misinform the public. We urge the public to exercise extreme caution and not to interact with these accounts. Please do not reply, follow, share information, or send any money or personal details,” NPS stated.

The service called on the public to only follow the correct verified NPS social media accounts.
“Always look for the official verified badge (the "blue tick") on our Facebook and X accounts, and confirm you are on the correct profile before engaging,” the service added.
Further, NPS asked the public to report the fake social media accounts directly to the service or the DCI.
“Any communication or solicitation from unverified accounts should be treated as suspicious. Please report such fake accounts directly to the respective social media platforms and to the NPS via the toll-free hotlines 999, 911, or 112.
“Information can also be provided anonymously through #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203, or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000,” NPS concluded.
This comes weeks after Kenya Railways warned the public against fraudulent TikTok accounts that pose as official booking services for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
In a statement on Thursday, November 6, the rail transport operator cautioned Kenyans against falling victim to scammers who have created fake social media pages claiming to offer SGR ticket booking services.
"Please note that these pages are managed by fraudsters who are out to con unsuspecting members of the public. Kenya Railways does not have an official TikTok account, and any accounts claiming to represent us on that platform are fake," the statement read.
Kenya Railways shared screenshots of several fake accounts and groups operating on various social media platforms, all of which falsely claimed to provide SGR booking services.
Among the fraudulent pages exposed is a public group called "SGR Online Booking Service 0708**2553," which has attracted 19,100 members.
Another fake group identified is "SGR-Madaraka Express booking solutions call 073**29820," operating as a private group with 9,100 members.
