The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced the death of Georgina Margaret Oketch.

In a statement on Saturday, December 6, ODM said Oketch passed away after a short illness.

The late Oketch was a member of the ODM party’s Disability League. She previously served as an ODM-nominated MCA in the Siaya County Assembly.

ODM mourned Oketch as a dedicated member whose contribution to the party will be missed.

“We mourn the passing on of Hon. Georgina Margaret Oketch, a member of the ODM Disability League and a former nominated MCA in the Siaya County Assembly, after a short illness.

“We have lost a dedicated member of the party whose immense contribution will be missed. May she RIP,” ODM stated.

Oketch’s sudden death came hours after nominated Member of Parliament, Denar Joseph Hamis,i also passed away.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula,  in an official communique on Saturday, notified the country at large of the demise of Hamisi.

"It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, 6th December 2025 at about 7:00 am," said Wetang’ula.

The speaker eulogized Hamisi as a committed and diligent lawmaker who prioritized his duties in the August house and the needs of the common citizenry.

"He served the National Assembly with diligence and commitment as a member of the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion & Equal Opportunities," Wetang’ula stated.

Hamisi was sponsored to the National Assembly by the now-defunct Amani National Congress (ANC) party, then under the leadership of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Wetang’ula further appointed a team led by Owen Baya to liaise with the family and support a befitting farewell.
