Leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta have raised concerns over the much-talked-about possibility of an alliance between Deputy President William Ruto and their handshake partner, ODM Leader Raila Odinga.
Jubilee Vice-Chairperson and ally to the President, David Murathe has opened up on the much-hyped reunion, issuing a condition under which they would support it.
He stated that the only way a union between the two leaders would get the blessings of the president as if the DP's camp lets Raila be the presidential flag-bearer.
Murathe also weighed in on the meeting between ODM Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya and DP Ruto, seeking clarity as to whether it was by chance or planned.

“Oparanya is telling us it was a chance meeting and at the same time saying that Jakom (Raila Odinga) was aware. Others are also telling us that Oparanya is not with Jakom. Now, who do you believe? We will wait to hear from the horse's mouth,” Murathe stated.
“I take my brief from two people, Uhuru and Jakom, and I can tell you the handshake is intact. And by the way, if they want an alliance, provided they make Jakom the president, we have no problem with it,” he added.
The talk of a Ruto-Raila alliance has elicited mixed reactions from various political camps in the country.
Moreover, plans of a union between the two leaders strain the Building Bridges Initiatives (BBI) process.
However, BBI Secretariat co-chair Dennis Waweru maintains that the BBI process remains intact and on course.
“We are confident that we are on course and we will still stick within the timelines we had given earlier.
"We had indicated that we wanted to push this process through and ensure that by June or July we should be headed to a referendum,” Waweru stated.
