Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has dismissed social media reports claiming that his Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon was involved in an accident.

In a statement on Friday, December 19, Sonko clarified that his vehicle was not involved in any accident and termed the claims on social media as fake propaganda.

The National Economic Development Party of Kenya (NEDP) leader said he is safe and in good health.

“I have noted fake propaganda being circulated claiming that one of my Mercedes G-Wagons was involved in a rollover accident.

“Let me categorically state that this information is false. I am very safe, well, and in good health. No such incident occurred,” Sonko stated.

The former Nairobi governor urged Kenyans to ignore misinformation and rely only on verified facts.

He also thanked members of the public who reached out to him out of concern following the false claims.

“I urge the public to ignore misinformation and rely only on verified facts. Those spreading falsehoods should desist. Thank you to everyone who reached out with concern and goodwill,” Sonko added.

The claims emerged online days after Sonko showcased his fleet of Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons.

The former county boss owns a collection of high-end vehicles, which he frequently displays on social media.

Among his collection, Sonko owns three Mercedes-Benz G-Wagons, two Cadillac Escalades, a Lexus LX570, a Nissan Patrol, a Toyota Land Cruiser, and a Range Rover Autobiography.

On December 9, Sonko launched the NEDP party, marking his latest attempt to return to active politics.

Speaking after receiving complete registration from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties, Sonko revealed that the journey to establish the party began in 2019, with documents lodged in 2020.

"Today, we are very glad the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has issued us the full registration of our party, the National Economic Development Party of Kenya. We started this journey in 2019, and then we lodged the documents in these offices in 2020. It has not been an easy journey," Sonko stated.

Sonko announced that Dr. Nyamu, a gynecologist who previously served as director of Pumwani Maternity Hospital during his governorship, will serve as the interim party chairman and party leader.
