Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko will vie for the Governor seat in the August 9, polls,

The former Governor will be seeking the Mombasa Governor seat on a Wiper ticket.

The Governor has since been cleared by the Wiper party to vie for the seat. He will be battling it out with Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo for the Wiper ticket.

The Former Governor noted that Mombasa county is his home and he will therefore be seeking manage their county affairs.

"I am going for Mombasa county gubernatorial seat on Wiper party under Azimio, I am a national leader and Mombasa is still my hometown," Sonko said. 

Sonko has been silent on his political journey and has been busy with his private businesses.

Despite being an Azimio member owing to his membership of the Wiper party led by Kalonzo Musyoka, Sonko is yet to hit the ground and campaign for ODM leader Raila Odinga's presidential bid.

He is also yet to start campaigning in Mombasa or even share his bid on his social media channels.
