Over the past few days, the media has been awash with claims of a possible alliance between Raila and Ruto. Here's Murkomen's statement on the issue.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed reports that there are ongoing coalition talks between ODM party and Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview on Tuesday night, Murkomen noted that the Hustler Movement considers ODM leader Raila Odinga as their only credible competitor, and as such, they cannot form a coalition with him.

According to Murkomen, in the unlikely event that the two decide to work together, then the country will not have an election but a 'coronation'.

“...We have never had and we are not planning to have at the moment a conversation towards forming a political alliance with ODM... We in the hustler nation believe that the only credible competitor we have in the country is Raila Odinga.

“Any person imagining that we were going to form an alliance with the only available competitor would actually be imaging that Kenya wants to become a one-party state or a dictatorship. For me, it is farfetched for anyone to try to imagine at the moment that you’ll have a situation where Raila Odinga and William Ruto will join hands together and we still have an election; that becomes a coronation.

Murkomen further noted that Kenya is a multi-party democracy and can only flourish when there is a challenge between two political forces.

“…Kenya is a multi-party democracy, for that democracy to flourish in Kenya at the moment, there must be two forces competing for power, the forces around Raila Odinga and around William Ruto,” he opined.

ODM chairman John Mbadi who was also in the same interview agreed with Murkomen that there are currently no alliance talks between Raila and Ruto.
