As the 2022 general election draws near, several politicians have been hosting meetings with an aim of building alliances and solidifying their support base ahead of the much-anticipated poll.

Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, who’s already declared interest in the Presidential seat, has also been holding meetings especially with leaders allied to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

On Tuesday, Governor Kibwana had a meeting with ODM leaders from the lower Eastern region. The meeting focused on local and national issues.

“Today, I held a consultative meeting with the Lower Eastern @TheODMparty leadership on their invitation. We discussed various issues both local and national. We agreed to further the consultations in the spirit of developing a pathway towards the realization of reform politics,” he posted on Twitter.

The meeting with lower Eastern ODM leadership comes weeks after the governor reportedly attended a high-profile meeting alongside Odinga’s close allies Siaya Senator James Orengo and Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o among other senior leaders.

Following the meeting, reports emerged that the team could be planning an alliance to face off with the One Kenya alliance featuring ANC, Wiper, Ford-Kenya, and KANU.

Though the details of the meeting are yet to be revealed, many believe it was all about 2022 politics.
