The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday, August 15, declared Deputy President William Ruto as the President elect. 

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday, August 15, declared Deputy President William Ruto the President elect. 

IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati stated that Ruto garnered  7,176,141 million votes which is 50.49% nationally against his arch-rival Raila Odinga who got 6,942,930 votes  48.85%. 

Chebukati also added that this would be the last election he would preside over. 

I stand here despite intimidation and harassment. I took an oath of office to serve this country and I have done my duty in accordance with the constitution and the laws of the land," Chebukati said.

Addressing the press, Ruto mentioned that the hero of the election was the electoral body. 

"All you needed is a simple calculator, and you have the results, Wafula Chebukati is our hero," he stated. 

Ruto added, "I want to thank my worthy competitor Raila Odinga for a worthy campaign. I want to promise him that I will work with all elected leaders to deliver to Kenyans. There's no room for vengeance we're looking forward. We're all hands on deck. We don't have the luxury to apportion blame. We must work together for a prosperous Kenya."
