KURA Announces Traffic Disruption Along Outer Ring Road

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a partial closure of Outer Ring Road on Saturday, August 8.

In an advisory issued to motorists, KURA explained that it planned to remove a gantry from a section of the road near the junction with Airport Road.

The Authority confirmed that the disruption would only last for three hours, after which normal traffic flow is expected to resume.

"Motorists are informed of a partial closure of Outer Ring Road on Saturday, 8th August 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., to facilitate removal of a gantry at the location indicated in the attached sketch," the statement read in part.

KURA explained that from 12p.m to 1p.m, staff members will be setting up machinery on the site, adding that during the period, traffic movement will be minimal along the road section at restricted speeds.

However, the Authority states that the affected section will remain closed between 1 and 2 p.m to facilitate the removal of the gantry.

The road section will be reopened between 1400 hrs and 1500 hrs but at restricted speeds to pave the way for demobilisation.

KURA offered an apology to motorists for any inconvenience caused by the traffic disruption.

The announcement came days after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced the partial closure of a section of Mombasa Road to facilitate construction works.

KeNHA stated that the affected section is located at the Highway Educational Complex near Bellevue and that the closure will be implemented in phases.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) at the Highway Educational Complex near Bellevue, on both bound lanes, will be temporarily and interchangeably closed from Monday, August 10, 2026, to Monday, September 14, 2026," the notice read.

KeNHA explained that the closure is necessary to facilitate the construction of a box culvert along the affected stretch of the highway.
