Kalonzo Reveals Stand if Sifuna is Picked as Opposition Flag Bearer

Wiper Party leader has revealed he is ready to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna if he is picked as the opposition flagbearer in the 2027 General Election. 

Speaking during an interview on Monday, August 10, Kalonzo said he has no problem supporting the Nairobi Senator. 

The former vice president also said he is sure that Sifuna will support him if he is picked as the opposition flag bearer. 

Besides Sifuna, Kalonzo also said he is ready to support former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. 

“I have no problem supporting Sifuna at all. I am also quite sure that Sifuna has no problem supporting me either. I have no problem supporting Gachagua; I stood with him at the hour of need during his impeachment,” said Kalonzo. 

The Wiper Party leader emphasized that the opposition is aware that President William Ruto's political survival depends on the division of the united opposition.

According to Kalonzo, the key to defeating Ruto in the 2027 is for the opposition to remain united, regardless of who is ultimately chosen as its presidential flag bearer.

“We are aware that William Ruto’s only way to survive is to divide the united opposition. If we succeed in holding together. It matters not who is actually the flag bearer. It’s a common cause,” he added. 

Kalonzo’s remarks come hours after former Public Service CS Moses Kuria claimed that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is being fattened for slaughter. 

Speaking on Sunday night, Kuria claimed that Gachagua and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta have already settled on Kalonzo as their preferred presidential candidate in the 2027 general election. 

“Uhuru Kenyatta and Rigathi Gachagua don’t agree on many things, but they have agreed on one: who is their candidate. As sure as day follows night, the candidate for Gachagua and Uhuru is Kalonzo Musyoka. It’s already been decided,” Kuria claimed. 

Further, Kuria opined that the political push around Sifuna could be aimed at positioning him as Kalonzo's potential running mate in the 2027 presidential contest.

“In their opinion, they are hyping up Sifuna so that he can become Kalonzo’s running mate. Sifuna is a brilliant young man, but I don’t think they gave him a memo that he is being prepared for the running mate position,” Kuria added.
