The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) is mourning the death of Francis Kang’ethe Mbugua, a Data Protection Officer II – Training.
In a statement on Saturday, August 15, the ODPC said Mbugua died following a fatal road accident.
"Francis tragically passed away following a fatal road accident, leaving behind his family, colleagues, friends, and the entire ODPC fraternity in deep sorrow and disbelief," the statement read.
Mbugua was remembered for his dedication to his responsibilities, professionalism and commitment to the work of the ODPC.
"Francis will be remembered for his dedication to duty, professionalism, commitment, and the valuable contribution he made to the work and mandate of the Office.

"His untimely departure is a great loss to the Office and to all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him," the statement added.
The ODPC conveyed its condolences to Mbugua’s family, relatives, friends and colleagues as they come to terms with his death, assuring them of the Office’s support during the difficult period.
"On behalf of the Office, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives, friends, and colleagues during this profoundly difficult time.
"We stand with the family in grief and pray that they may find strength, comfort, and courage as they come to terms with this painful loss," the statement concluded.
This comes a day after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced the death of its Assistant Director for Surveillance and Enforcement, Silas Cheboi.
In a statement on Thursday, August 13, EPRA said Cheboi’s death was a big loss to the authority and his colleagues.
"We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mr. Silas Cheboi, Assistant Director, Surveillance and Enforcement at the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
"His passing is a profound loss to the Authority, his colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of working with him," read the statement.
EPRA mourned Cheboi as a dedicated manager who served with professionalism, integrity, and commitment.
"He will be remembered for his dedicated service, professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the mandate of EPRA," the authority stated.
Further, EPRA extended its condolences to Cheboi’s family, friends, colleagues, and all those mourning his death.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn his loss. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Silas," the statement added.
