Interior Principal Secretary has announced that the construction of the Kamwangi Modern Market in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, is nearing completion.
In an update on Sunday, August 16, PS Omollo said the construction of the market is currently in its final stages.

“Construction of the Kamwangi Modern Market in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, is in its final stages, bringing the promise of a modern, dignified and well-equipped trading environment closer to reality,” read the statement in part.
PS Omollo said the modern market features cold storage, retail and administrative spaces, an ICT hub, a social hall, a kitchen and a mothers' room.

The facility has also been equipped with sanitation facilities and a reliable water supply system supported by elevated and underground storage.

“Once operational, it will provide traders with a safer, cleaner and more organized marketplace, replacing years of operating in congested spaces with inadequate infrastructure,” the Interior PS stated.
PS Omollo also mentioned that the project is already creating employment opportunities, particularly for youth and women in Gatundu North.
Further, he said the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has supported the implementation of the project by providing effective coordination, fostering stakeholder collaboration, and creating a stable environment for timely execution.

This comes days after PS Omollo said the Gikambura Modern Market in Kiambu County is nearing completion.
In an update on Friday, August 14, PS Omollo said the construction of the market is substantially complete and only minor and external finishes remain.
He described the Gikambura Market as a practical investment that translates the government’s aspirations into tangible development while giving local communities a stake in the future.

“The Gikambura Modern Market in Kiambu County is one such investment, creating space for enterprise while laying a stronger foundation for local economic growth.
PS Omollo noted that the Gikambura market will accommodate 340 traders through 100 shops and 208 stalls once operational.
The market has also been equipped with a social hall, meeting rooms, offices, an ICT hub, a food court and kitchen, a salon and barbershop, among other amenities.
