Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed reports that he directed Mathira residents to block UDA agents from accessing polling stations in the 2027 General Election.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed reports that he directed Mathira residents to block UDA agents from accessing polling stations in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Wednesday, August 19, Gachagua clarified that he said the UDA party will have no one to be their agent in the constituency.

The DCP party leader explained that they will persuade everyone in Mathira and the Mt Kenya region to be on their side and vote against President Ruto.

“What I said, and I want to explain and emphasize, is that in this area, we will persuade everybody to vote against Ruto and support our side to the extent that he will have no agents. When he looks for people to represent him at the polling stations, he will find that there is nobody willing to do so.

“That is what we are going to do. We are not saying that we will block his agents; we are saying that when he tries to ask who will be his agent, everybody will decline,” Gachagua explained.

The former Deputy President’s clarification comes after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned him over a series of remarks made during public events in different parts of the country.

In a letter dated Tuesday, August 18, NCIC said it is investigating various utterances allegedly made by Gachagua at public forums in Vihiga, Kisii and Meru counties.

According to the commission, one of the incidents under investigation occurred on June 12, 2026, at Luanda in Vihiga County during a public rally.

NCIC is also investigating remarks allegedly made by Gachagua on February 23, 2026, at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County, where he was addressing political issues involving local leaders.

Further, NCIC cited remarks made during Gachagua’s tour of Meru between July 25 and July 28, 2026.

NCIC directed Gachagua to appear before the commission on Thursday, August 27, at 2:00 pm.

The former DP is required to appear in person at the NCIC offices at Britam Towers in Upper Hill, Nairobi, to assist with the ongoing investigations.

"Penal notice: take notice that failure to appear in person at the aforementioned place, date, and time will lead to warrants of arrest being issued for your arrest and production before the Commission and/or the institution of criminal and/or contempt proceedings against you," the summons added.
