Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has mourned the death of Beatrice Njoki Mitaru, a Specially Elected Member of the Kirinyaga County Assembly representing Persons with Disabilities.
In a statement on Monday, August 24, Waiguru described Mitaru as a dedicated public servant whose years in the County Assembly were marked by advocacy for inclusion and the rights of persons with disabilities.
"Having served in the County Assembly since 2017, Hon. Mitaru dedicated many years to public service and was a strong voice for inclusion and the rights of persons with disabilities. Kirinyaga will miss her commitment, warmth and spirit of service," she wrote.
Waiguru extended her condolences to Mitaru's son, family, friends, colleagues and the people she represented during her time in public service.
"My heartfelt condolences go to her son, family, friends, colleagues and all those she represented and served. May God grant them courage and comfort in the days ahead, and may He grant Hon. Njoki eternal rest," she added.

Meanwhile, Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu is mourning the death of her husband and former High Court Judge, Justice Joseph Mbalu Mutava.
In a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, Public Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner Johnson Muthama announced that the late Justice Mutava, who was his long-time friend, died last night.
Muthama offered his condolences to the bereaved MP and her family as they come to terms with the demise of their loved one.
"On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to our dear friend, Hon. Jessica Mbalu, on the painful loss of your beloved husband. May God comfort you, your family and loved ones during this difficult time, and grant you strength to bear this great loss," the statement read in part.
Preliminary reports indicate that the departed former High Court Judge had been taken ill on Friday night, and was rushed to Makindu Hospital, where he passed on while receiving medical attention.
Makueni MP Suzanne Kiamba also offered her condolences to her colleague at the National Assembly, wishing her strength and courage as she mourns her husband.
"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Joseph Mbalu Mutava, beloved husband of my fellow Member of the National Assembly for Kibwezi East constituency, Hon. Jessica Mbalu.
"During this difficult and painful moment, I stand with Hon. Jessica, the entire family, relatives, and friends in mourning this great loss. May God give the family strength, comfort, and courage as they navigate this period of grief.
"Joseph’s life and the memories he leaves behind will forever remain cherished by those who knew and loved him," she wrote.
