The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has opened nominations for the 2026 World Teachers' Day (WTD) Awards.
In a statement on Tuesday, August 25, the commission said it is seeking to recognise teachers who have made exceptional contributions to education across the country.
"The commission is calling for nomination for teachers for the World Teachers’ Day (WTD) 2026 Awards under the tagline 'Twawaenzi Walimu - Mashujaa Wetu'," the statement read.
According to TSC, the awards are intended to honour teachers and education leaders whose work has demonstrated outstanding commitment to improving teaching and learning.
"This initiative seeks to identify, recognize and celebrate teachers and dedication leaders who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, leadership and impact in advancing teaching and learning across the country," the statement added.

TSC has encouraged members of the public and teachers to identify individuals whose work in education deserves national recognition.
Teachers can nominate themselves or put forward colleagues for consideration as part of the initiative to celebrate excellence in education.
TSC has set August 26, 2026, as the deadline for submitting nominations.

Elsewhere, this comes months after TSC addressed reports circulating on social media claiming that headteachers and principals could be exempted from classroom teaching duties.
The claims emerged from a widely shared post alleging that the commission had received a proposal seeking to relieve school heads of teaching responsibilities to enable them to focus entirely on the management and implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
However, in a statement on Wednesday, June 10, TSC clarified that the information being circulated online is misleading and should not be treated as a position of the commission.
"Reference is made to the above circulating poster. Please note that the information is misleading and fake," TSC said.
More recently, TSC cautioned teachers and members of the public against a fake notice circulating online claiming to announce the implementation of the July 2026 salary increment.
In an update on Saturday, July 18, the commission flagged the purported circular as fake, urging the public not to rely on the information.
The forged document is addressed to all TSC teachers and claims to communicate the implementation of the second phase of the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) salary increment.
It further alleges that the government had allocated Ksh8.4 billion to facilitate salary adjustments, teacher promotions and the employment of Junior Secondary School teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.
