MP Didmus Barasa Graduates With PhD From Murang'a University

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Administration from Murang’a University of Technology.

The university had earlier confirmed that Barasa had met all the requirements for the award in a letter dated June 16, 2026, from the Office of the Director, Postgraduate Studies. 

In the letter, the university confirmed that Barasa had successfully completed his fieldwork and defended his thesis under the supervision of Dr Nancy Githaiga and Dr Alice Omariba.

"Following successful completion of field work and thesis defense of your thesis, under the supervision of Dr Nancy Githaiga and Dr Alice Omariba, you have fulfilled the requirements for the award of a Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration," the letter read.

In a statement on Friday, August 28, Barasa celebrated the achievement, describing the journey to earning his doctorate as one that required considerable personal sacrifice, perseverance and commitment.

"Today I graduate with a Doctor of philosophy degree in public administration. It has been a long journey of late nights, sacrifice, resilience and grace," he wrote.

Barasa also expressed gratitude to his family for supporting him throughout his studies, singling out his wife for her patience and understanding as he balanced his academic work with his responsibilities.

"I want to sincerely thank my family for standing with me through this process. To my wife - thank you for your understanding, your patience, and for holding the home together during those long 2 a.m. nights of study. Your support meant a lot," he added.

Barasa further thanked those who encouraged and supported him during his academic journey, saying the attainment of the PhD marked an important milestone but would not bring his work to an end.

"To everyone who encouraged me, prayed for me, and pushed me to keep going - I do not take it for granted. This Doctorate is a milestone, not the finish line. The work continues," he concluded.

This comes a week after former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana was installed as the third Chancellor of International Leadership University.

In a ceremony on Thursday, August 20, Kibwana took the Chancellor’s Oath of Office, pledging to serve the university and wider society faithfully while upholding the values and responsibilities entrusted to him.

"I, Kivutha Kibwana, accepting the office of Chancellor of International Leadership University, commit myself, by the grace of God, to uphold the Charter and Statutes of the University, to protect its Christian identity and mission, to promote academic excellence, integrity, and good governance, and to serve faithfully the University, the Church, society, and future generations," he said.

Following the oath, Kibwana was formally vested with the academic regalia associated with the office of Chancellor in a ceremonial process known as robing. 

The ceremony was presided over by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, assisted by the Chairman of the University Council.

After his installation and robing, Kibwana was prayed upon as part of the ceremony, marking the conclusion of the formal proceedings.
