You Will Never Intimidate Me – Orengo After Being Attacked in Migori

Siaya Governor James Orengo has vowed to remain undeterred after being attacked during a rally in Migori County.

In a statement on Saturday evening, August 29, Orengo alleged that his vehicle was sprayed with bullets before it was set on fire. 

The Siaya Governor described the Migori incident as an attempt against his life. 

“They swore we’d never set foot in Migori. They failed. Thank you, Migori, for standing with us.

“To the cowards who sprayed live bullets into my car and torched it in Awendo to hide your crimes: your desperate violence only proves your fear. You thought you eliminated me, but I am always steps ahead,” Orengo stated. 

The Siaya County boss went on to say the attack will not intimidate him into abandoning his political activities. 

“You can’t burn down a movement, and you will never intimidate me. Unbwogable,” Orengo added. 

Orengo’s rally in Migori was disrupted after a tear gas canister was discharged while he was addressing the locals. 

Governor Orengo was quickly whisked away from the scene by his security detail while his supporters scampered for safety. 

The incident comes a day after President William Ruto directed the National Police Service (NPS) to take action against individuals organizing and financing political violence in the country. 

Speaking on Friday, August 28, during the passing-out parade of police recruits at Kiganjo, President Ruto raised concern over the growing use of goons to disrupt political events. 

The Head of State made it clear that politically sponsored violence has no place in the country and directed the police to pursue the sponsors of the violence. 

“In recent months, we have witnessed growing concern about hired gangs and young people recruited, transported, and paid to disrupt political meetings, intimidate opponents, and provoke violence.

“Let me be absolutely clear on this: politically sponsored violence has no place in our democracy. The National Police Service and all our security agencies should therefore take firm, lawful, and impartial action against anyone who finances, organizes, incites, or perpetrates political violence,” Ruto said.
